Follow the Activity of Each MK Through a Variety of Indexes

From proposing legislation and showing up for committee meetings, to activity in the plenum and overseeing the government. Shomrim has created several indexes to follow the work of Knesset Members, to get a clearer picture of what they dedicate their attention and time to. Click on each index for an overview and the name of the MK for a closer look at each elected official.

White Paper Index

The Knesset Research and Information Center provides lawmakers with “professional, reliable, objective research and analysis on various issues.” The RIC should be a vital tool for every MK, informing their decisions and action. Shomrim’s White Paper Index keeps track of the number of papers submitted to the RIC by each member of Knesset. (Last update: 15.5.2022)

Speech Index

The Knesset plenum is the central and supreme authoritative body of the Knesset. Knesset resolutions are adopted through voting in the Plenum and debates on various issues reflecting current events are held in the Plenum. For better and worse, the public’s perception of the Knesset is forged mainly by Knesset members’ activity in the Plenum. The Index below tracks which MK gave the most on-record speeches. Committee Membership Index

A key part of the Knesset’s work is conducted in the Knesset committees. Every issue requiring a professional and in-depth discussion is referred to the committees, according to their areas of jurisdiction. Their composition reflects the relative size of the parliamentary party in the Knesset.
The committees discuss and prepare bills for vote in the Plenum; monitor and oversee government policy; and discuss Urgent Motions for the Agenda submitted by Members of Parliament. This index tracks the number of committees each MK is a member of. Last update: 15.5.2022)

Legislation Index

Private member’s bills are one of the defining marks of parliamentary activity. In recent years there has been a dramatic increase in the number of private member’s bills submitted by Knesset members. Indeed, the vast majority of private member’s bills do not become law; some are even designed to antagonize the government. Nonetheless, despite their problematic nature, these bills are an essential parliamentary tool for MKs to raise issues they deem important. This index tracks the number of private member bills submitted by MKs. (Last update: 15.5.2022)

Abstention Index

In light of the unusual composition of the coalition, and especially the opposition, in Israel, which can consist of parties with very different and even opposite ideological backgrounds, voting “Abstain” allows MKs to “have their cake and eat it too.” On the one hand, not to support a vote contrary to their ideology, and on the other hand, not to be perceived as allies of political opponents. Here are the number of times each MK voted “abstain” (Last update: 18.5.2022)
